What can you expect?
In your FIG community, you'll be able to get to know people and make friends with students who have similar academic interests. You are likely to become friends with other students in your FIG because you'll see them more frequently in class, in your FIG Seminar, and on your residence hall floor. There will be opportunities to get to know faculty and staff a little better too. As a FIG student, you will actively participate in class discussions with your Seminar Instructor and Peer Mentor and be able to meet informally with faculty. Your enthusiastic and dedicated Peer Mentor, who is an advanced undergraduate student, will be available on your residence hall floor to help form study groups, answer questions about resources and opportunities on and off campus, and coordinate special events throughout the year.
FIG students can expect to:
- Prepare for and engage actively in seminar discussions with classmates, the Seminar Instructor, and the Peer Mentor
- Take part in nonjudgmental conversations what it means to be part of the university, requirements of your intended major, student rights and responsibilities, diversity, and campus safety and alcohol use
- Participate in educational and social activities -- attend events, listen to speakers on campus, and share meals with each other and professors
- Contribute to the community through a service project
- Create study groups -- informal or formal gatherings with your classmates
- Support the academic success of fellow FIG community members
